DUCKWEED

Duckweed is a very small floating plant with tiny oval leaves about 1/8” to 1/10” inch long and 1/10” wide. A single small root hair is found on the bottom of each plant. Thousands or millions of these tiny plants can completely cover the surface of a pond. Heavy amounts of duckweed can result in lower oxygen levels due to shading of sunlight. The appearance is also unsightly. Duckweed is a valuable food source, however, to many species of paddle ducks. For control, we recommend Reward plus Cide-Kick, a spray additive that helps the herbicide penetrate the plant. Reward should be evenly sprayed over the duckweed for best results (links to Solo, Flomaster and electric sprayer) Also highly recommended is Sonar AS which is highly effective on duckweed. Even application is not as critical as with Reward. Also, the longevity of control is much better with Sonar, often lasting 1 or even 2 seasons.
