EUGLENA |
|
|
|
Euglena
is a single-celled organism that possesses a whip-like flagellum or tail
that allows it to migrate up
and down
in the water column. Hence, blooms or surface scum will often be
more noticeable in the mornings or evenings and diminish during the
middle of the day when the suns light is more intense. Blooms take
the form of a surface scum that varies from red, to yellow-green
to lime. This type of infestation often occurs in nutrient-rich ponds
such as farm and aquaculture ponds that receive a high influx of
nutrients.
