FANWORT OR CABOMBA

Fanwort or Cabomba is a submersed annual plant with many flexuous, slightly flattened stems arising from the base. The roots are fibrous and silvery. The individual leaves are opposite and dissected into linear divisions resulting in a fan-like shape. The upper stem produces alternative, floating leaves that are very small, firm in texture, green, narrowly elliptic and about ½ to ¾ inch long. The flowers are 1/3 inch wide and are produced on long pedicels from the axils of the floating leaves. The flowers are held just above the water surface when fully open. The color of the stems, leaves and flowers is variable, ranging from green with white or cream flowers to reddish-purple with pink to light purple flowers. Sonar is very effective, either AS or the pellets, Q or SRP. Reward plus Captain or Cutrine-Plus also works well. Aquathol Super K may be used for spot treating Fanwort.
