American or Longleaf Pondweed has stems growing up to 6’ long. Both floating and submersed leaves are usually present. The submersed leaves are often found in some state of deterioration and are thin and flaccid up to 8 inches long and 1.25 inches wide. the floating leaves are smooth and often shiny on the upper surface, elliptic, 3.5 to 5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. The mid-nerve is very prominent beneath and the lateral veins are prominent above. The flowers are produced on an emersed thick cylindrical spike up to 1/3 inch wide and 1-2.5 inches long. Recommended control materials include Sonar AS, Sonar Q, and Aquathol Super K Granular. |
