PICKERELWEED

Pickerelweed is an erect, perennial plant with basal leaves. It grow up to 3 feet tall. The plant has short, thick rootstocks. The flowers are numerous and showy, arranged in a spike 2-6 inches in length and purple, flowering from April to October. It grows in ditches and along margins of lakes, ponds and streams in water up to 2’ deep. It is considered beneficial and not often controlled. In cultivated situations, it is often advantageous to cut off the dead or old growth with a Water Weed Cutter III or Aquatic Weed Eradicator.
