SMARTWEED

Smartweed is a robust perennial that grows from a stout rootstock. The stems lay down and root at the nodes, then ascent and branch, reaching lengths of 6’ or more. the leaves are alternate, smooth and entire up to 10 inches long and elliptical to lanceolate, and pointed at both ends. The flower heads are 2-4 inches long and usually pink. Smartweed forms dense stands that can be problematic. Smartweed is easy to control with Rodeo or Shore-Klear or AquaPro and Cide-Kick added to help penetrate the plants.
