WATER WILLOW

Water willow usually forms colonies or dense stands. the stems are prominently jointed and up to 30 inches tall. the leaves are opposite, narrowly elliptic and up to 6 inches long. The flowers are on crowded spikes. The petals are pale violet with purple markings, especially on the lower lips. It grows along rocky or sandy streams and in shallow water of lake margins.
